This Day In History

October is an interesting time as a sports fan. It's the only time that the NFL, NHL, MLB, and NBA are all in season. The NBA begins on October 25 of this year and it will definitely be an exciting time in the local Sacramento area. We have a new arena and there is a buzz in the air downtown.

The NBA's roots are from two different professional leagues originally, one of them being the ABA. On October 13th, 1967, the American Basketball Association had it's first game when the Oakland Oaks beat the Anaheim Amigos 134-129.

You may have seen the red, white and blue ball, the short shorts, and the big hair. Did you know, though, that they invented the three point shot? A facet of basketball that still lives strong in the Oakland area, in fact.

There are four teams in the current NBA that have survived the merge and are still around. Kudos card if you can name them to me.

Just a little fun history for your Thursday. Slide On!!!

$86,400

In the wake of Kickstarter, I find myself reflecting on all the special moments I had with Kickstarter backers. Turns out the internet can be a pretty vicious place, and sometimes it's hard to shake off the negativity being thrown at you. I could scoff and sarcastically make a comment about the person who publicly criticized us, but what good would that do?

I recently found some perspective and, in turn, some inner zen. If you had $86,400 and someone stole $10 from you, would you waste the remaining $86,390 to seek revenge on that person? No, you'd just move on. Well we have 86,400 seconds in a day, don't let 10 seconds ruin the rest of it.

The Future

"The best way to predict the future is to create it."

                                       -Peter Drucker

I don't know about you, but as soon as people find out where I work I tend to get the usual questions. Weren't you on Shark Tank? I've got a great idea for a belt..., etc. Lately, people have been letting me know every time they see a competitor's ad or product. They are typically convinced that they are stealing our thunder and we should do something about it.

What I love about SlideBelts is that we don't play that game. When the other companies are running around trying to copy us, what they don't realize is they can't. What we have created here can't be copied.  We are creating our own future every day and that is a pretty cool place to be.
