Martin Luther King Jr. Day Tue, Jan 22, 2019
Most of us were fortunate enough to have Monday off. (Thanks again to the moving heroes who set up our amazing new space. We will strive to deserve your sacrifice.)
It is easy to forget that these holidays are more than a good day to shop or sleep in it so here is a little about MLK Day.
- It is on rotating Mondays between the 15th - the 21st of January to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. ’s birthday which on 1/15.
- The bill to make the new holiday first came to a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1979 and was passed in 1983.
- It was first celebrated 1986.
- This was the third holiday honoring an individual (after George Washington and Christopher Columbus.)
- Some states have combined it with Rober E Lee's birthday and officially call it "Robert E. Lee/Martin Luther King Birthday".
