So Many Books, So Little Time! Sat, Nov 16, 2019
One of my favorite hobbies is reading. I’ve always loved reading, usually reading more than one book at a time. When I was little, my mom took me to the library to check out some books and I asked her, “How many can I get?” Her response was, “As many as you can carry.” The next time I went to the library, I brought two plastic Walmart bags so I could carry more! ;) As an adult, I find myself having less and less free time, but I try to make room for reading. Although this isn’t the series that I’m currently reading, I recently finished the fourth book in the Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children series by Ransom Riggs. I originally thought the series ended at book three, but I was literally jumping for joy at Barnes & Noble when I saw another one! The series is about a group of “peculiar” children who have special abilities, how they navigate their “peculiar” world and its enemies as well as the normal world. The most interesting thing about the series is that the books got started when the author found and collected vintage photos/snapshots and built a fictional novel around it. The pictures are in black and white and are pretty bizarre, but to see what the author’s imagination came up with as a story to build around and incorporate these photos was so interesting. Some of you may have heard of the first book because it was adapted into a movie in 2016. Although I do my best not to hold a grudge on a movie not being like a book, this one was difficult because they fit different pieces of the three books into one movie haha. BUT if you did see the movie and liked it, you should try out the books because the story is even more in depth and intense! The best part is, book five will be released in January and I can’t wait!
