Don't stress meowt

Congratulations on our first week in the New Building, We made it!
Jurassic Park has exceeded expectations and it is really starting to become SlideBelts new home.
Moving involves a bunch of factors such as organizing, packing, planning, unpacking and reorganizing! I bet everyone agrees that moving can be stressful,
especially leaving our old home that everyone knows and have grown attached too.
I have learned that everyone's life will change and it messes with the normal routine of how things are done.
Any change can be stressful, I've learned that you might not be able to plan for every little hiccup that can happen, but it is how we handle the stress.
Here is a little check list to help handle the change:
1) Make sure to say goodbye to the old place, it wasn't perfect but it perfectly got us to this new place!
2) Take a breathe when you are feeling overwhelmed. You aren't alone we are a company that works together.
3) Time, give yourself time to get things done. We can acknowledge the feeling but we shouldn't let it take us away from the task at hand.
4) Give everyone a break, Moving is difficult it can add to any emotional stress inside or outside of work.
5) Make sure to treat yourself! Self love is a big thing for me in 2019. Make sure to do things for yourself, like PingPong at lunch or doing a paint night with wine and chocolate after work! (What..Just me?)
7) Enjoy the new place and Explore! Take a good long look, walk around and check out all the beef cattle!
Overall, remember this is a new step forward and we make the best out of everything that is given to us.
Accepting that stress is a part of the process and it can be hard, but it isn't the end of the world. Let's try to build a new bond with Jurassic Park and finding all the joy in SlideBelts new home!

Lost in the Woods

On Monday, I trekked down to Marin County to visit Muir Woods National Park for Free Admission Day (not that it mattered, shoutout government shutdown). It was the perfect day -- was sunny after a week of downpour to create an almost rainforest-like environment.

The forest was stunning, with towering redwoods, lively streams, and a refreshing balance of sunny spots and woodsy-mist. A nice bonus was that there was absolutely no cell service in the park, so it forced everyone to take it all in rather than getting wrapped up in finding the perfect gif/filter/caption/etc and missing out on the moment.

I walked in expecting a relaxing stroll, but I got distracted from the main path and insisted I followed a sign that lead to something called "Fern Creek". It sounded harmless, but it turned out that trail lead me out of the park and towards the opposite way, which I didn't realize until a hiker I came across half an hour into the trail asked, "does this lead to Muir Woods?" The hiker was in full gear, Merrell Boots and all, and I was out of breath trying to keep it cool in my muddy sneakers. No regrets though, as I got my steps in and some amazing views due to the steep hike. Definitely recommend visiting - it's just a little north of the Golden Gate, just follow the trail if you're not prepared for a challenging trek...

Fun fact: the average age of the coastal redwoods at Muir Woods is between 600 to 800 years, with the oldest being at least 1200 years old!

Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Most of us were fortunate enough to have Monday off. (Thanks again to the moving heroes who set up our amazing new space. We will strive to deserve your sacrifice.)

It is easy to forget that these holidays are more than a good day to shop or sleep in it so here is a little about MLK Day.

- It is on rotating Mondays between the 15th - the 21st of January to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. ’s birthday which on 1/15.

- The bill to make the new holiday first came to a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1979 and was passed in 1983.

- It was first celebrated 1986.

- This was the third holiday honoring an individual (after George Washington and Christopher Columbus.)

- Some states have combined it with Rober E Lee's birthday and officially call it  "Robert E. Lee/Martin Luther King Birthday".
