What's Your EQ?

This morning I listened to one of my favorite Podcasts, The Model Health Show and the topic was “Emotional Intelligence”. I find it really interesting that there are so many studies showing that emotional intelligence is a greater predictor of career success than having a high IQ!  Below are a the biggest take a ways for me:

4 things to consider with your emotions

  1. Identify
  2. Evaluate
  3. Control- after evaluation, ask yourself, is it true? Is it accurate? All emotions have value but it’s important to control them rather than allowing them to control you.
  4. Express

Raising your Emotional Intelligence

  1. Read more fiction...
  2. Play games (Board games & card games)
  3. Meditate…This is the answer to life though
  4. Sleep…Don’t be Tangry! (Tired and angry)
  5. Practice Mindful Eating... How and why are you eating? Be present with your food.
  6. Self Reflection
  7. Observe Others

Apple > $1,000,000,000,000

Last week Apple became the world’s first trillion-dollar company. Let’s attempt to put some context around this insane amount of money.

-  With a trillion dollars, you could buy 1 billion iPhone X’s.
-  Apple could give all 325 million people in the United States a check for $3,076.92.
-  Apple is now over triple the size of Samsung. (Insert iOS is better than Android joke).
-  Disney, Netflix, and AT&T could all be bought by Apple and it would still have $450 billion left over.
-  Apple could erase two-thirds of the nation’s student loan debt.

Being the first to a trillion dollars is certainly an amazing feat. I just have one question, with all that money, can Apple hire someone to design a charging cord that won’t fray within a year? That'd be great, mkay.

Swimming with Sea Turtles

On my trip to Maui I was lucky enough to swim next to a family of Green Sea Turtles and I just wanted to share some fun facts about these amazing animals.

  • they can weigh up to 500lbs
  • only 1 in 5000 hatchlings survives incubation
  • can grow up to 5ft
  • their average lifespan is 80 years
  • they are regularly found resting under underwater ledges, basking on beaches, and nibbling on algae in shallow waters
  • despite their name, green sea turtles do not actually appear “green” – at least from the outside. Instead, the name “green” comes from the color of their internal fat tissue, which is green due to a diet that primarily consists of algae

The best snorkel spots in Maui to swim with sea turtles are Makena, aka “Turtle Town”, Olowalu, and Honolua.
