Liz Wessel, a former Googler and one of last year’s “30 Under 30” on the Forbes list, is the cofounder and CEO of WayUp: a recruiting tool for new college grads. I used WayUp myself after graduating and have since used it here for recruiting for SlideBelts (S/O to Meagan who came from WayUp!)
At a mere 26 years old, Liz runs a company of about 50 millennials dedicated to making the transition from college to the workforce as navigational as possible for both new grads and the companies looking to hire them. Liz may be a little bit of a workaholic, (often clocking 10 hour days, which is not something we recommend here) but she does have some awesome tips for making the best use of her time throughout the day. In her interview she talks about how these habits have led her to her success. A few are listed below:
- Wake up early - “up and out of bed at 7am to have time to play with my dog, and breakfast by 8am, usually with a potential client, investor, and oftentimes with a WayUp employee.”
- Make use of car rides - “I schedule conference calls for my rides between my meetings throughout the day, making sure to make one of these calls with my parents, who I call at least once daily” (I know a lot of us Crusaders make use of commutes with podcasts and audiobooks - don’t forget about that resource on Audible!)
- Finish the day with something light and relaxing - “I fall asleep to Seinfeld to unwind”
Even though I may not agree with 100% of her work methods, it’s super cool to see that an application that we use here is run by young, successful, forward-thinkers just like us.
