At this point, you've heard about how miserable it can be to spend any time in the backcountry. Cold nights, heavy packs, and aching bodies all sound like enough reason to never step foot out there.
So I am turning away from the mistakes I've made to look at the things I have done right. One of the most rewarding parts of spending time in those wild places is not the location itself but rather who you are sharing this space with.
Friend, family, coworkers, the community we build around us is what keep us moving when we are not at our best. Whether fighting a fridged night with wet firewood or finishing up a hectic week at work. Remember it's the people you surround yourself with that make those unbearably cold nights a little bit warmer.
